Windmill site is a great ride into nowhere. That I.D. You may try to search for similar specimens on ebay to get an idea of commercial value. Yes it is the same windmill site mentioned in other posts. They are more closely related to a living octopus, though the shells resemble that of a nautilus. The only thing buggin' me is that if you were in the Dakota, that would put you north of RR and far from "just". Kremmling,
I'm surprised that none of the New Mexico collectors have chimed in on this thread. The many chambers, or camerae, within ammonite shells are separated by dividing walls called septa, which are visible here. I believe these ammonites would have lived in the Western Interior (Pierre) Seaway which would put them between 82 an 69 MYA in other words during most of the Campanian and the first part of the Maastrichtian.
