I do like the more rock-oriented sound of tracks like "Life's an Ocean," but the overall sound still leaves me wanting something else. Don't comment just to troll/provoke.
Take a look into my eyes Beautiful ballads, intoxicating sound storms. From "A Northern Soul" This video is unavailable. The Verve come from a hippie shoe gazing background, acoustic guitar included, but they shoe gaze not because they’re on heroin, but because they’re slightly shy. Its a unique sound for sure, with a couple of hitters, but on the whole i must say that they were in a bit of creative incoherence in here, stuck between doing catchy music and big atmospheric guitar distortion segments.
The album instantly became one of my faviorte cd's (out of 300). I've no time for love and devotion It does show where they were headed though, and it definitely has its moments but overall I it's weaker than his later output.

They were great before the "the." I think (and maybe it's just a thought) that this is the most enjoyable feel-good piece of music I've ever heard. That song cought my attention, looked in the credits got the name and sought them out.
