I've been watching Jacksepticeye's playthroughs of Stories Untold, and I'm really loving it so far, which is why I wanted to play some similar games by myself. With Outlast, developer Red Barrels took the found footage movie genre and expertly turned it into a fiveish-hour interactive nightmare. I don't know if I'd call it a horror game exactly but it's all about about feeling really unsettled. Oxenfree is kind of the same, there is one "jumpscare" in the whole game and it's not even scary compared to what jumpscares regularly are. oh course its more sci-fi horror than traditional horror, but if you want to sit and cry in a corner til you can muster the courage to move forward, this is your game. While its tricks become more predictable, and therefore less scary, as you progress, Layers of Fear hits impressive horror heights in its opening hour.
