I was not familiar with Horowitz until I read “Magpie Murders” last year and was totally captivated by his reinvention of an Agatha Christie style mystery. Bravo! One thing you can say about horowitz, he certainly likes to base his mysteries around a Catchy Idea. An enjoyable novel with a grand mystery and a bottle of a terribly expensive wine in the background. And I determined at that age that I would pursue it all my life, and that is what I've always done. I think it would be impossible to read a book in which the hero did not have some sort of likability. Thank you. Six hours later she is found dead, strangled with a curtain cord in her own home. It’s as entertaining as all get out. And all of these are, of course, fictitious. Reviews |

A long way from his children’s novels, The Word is Murder is the perfect book for fans of crime, mystery and murder, looking for something just a little bit different. But, there was also a parallel story that did rounds in addition to the madness that Prince Dipendra carried out on June 1, 2001. She was a short, very business- like woman: there was a sense of determination in her eyes, her sharply cut hair, the very way she walked. The author inserts himself into the story, playing a bumbling companion to Private Detective, Daniel Hawthorne, a Watson to Hawthorne’s Sherlock. In the ”The Word is Murder,” Horowitz reimagines a Holmes and Watson mystery, with a fictionalized version of Horowitz as Watson. The author had to have had a ball when writing this. And by putting myself into the book, I suddenly realized that everything I wrote would be different, that my view of the landscape would be different, that I would have no knowledge of what was happening, when, of course, normally, the author knows everything.
